DV Lottery 2024 Requirements

Before sending your application to participate, make sure you meet the following conditions:

  1. To be a citizen of one of the countries with low immigration rates to the United States; if you are not, you can still participate if your spouse is from a country with low immigration rates. Or, you can ask the country of birth of your parents if they were born in one of the countries with low immigration rates.
  2. To meet the education and work experience criteria, which means having at least a high school diploma or two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training.

Learn about qualifying occupations here. According to the Department of State, you should not submit an application for the DV program unless you meet these two DV lottery 2024 requirements.

DV Lottery Requirements

  • Born in a qualifying country with a low immigration rate to the United States. (see the list)
  • Education or Work experience that qualifies for the DV2024 Lottery.

DV Lottery 2024 Requirements

1- To enter the Diversity Visa Lottery you must be a native of a qualifying country

To enter the DV-2024 Diversity Visa Green Card Lottery you must be a native of a country with a low immigration rate to the USA to qualify for the USA Diversity Visa Lottery. People born in countries with high U.S. immigration are excluded from this Diversity Visa Lottery. Please see the list below of countries whose natives are currently excluded from the USA Diversity Lottery. Please note that eligibility is determined only by the country of your birth, not based on your country of citizenship or current residence. This is the most common misperception. The only change this year is that people born in Honduras and Hong Kong SAR are no longer eligible to enter the DV-2024 green card lottery.

Natives of the following countries are excluded from entering the DV-2024 Diversity Visa Lottery program this year:

  • Bangladesh
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China (Including Hong Kong SAR)
  • Colombia
  • Dominican Republic
  • El Salvador
  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • India
  • Jamaica
  • Mexico
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • South Korea
  • United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland)
  • Venezuela
  • Vietnam

2- Education or Work experience that will qualify you

  • A US High School degree or a foreign equivalent of a US High School degree “High School Degree or its equivalent”

OR

  • To have worked in at least one of the following occupations for at least 2 years within the last 5 years
