Diversity Visa Lottery 2024, What’s New?
To participate in this year’s Diversity Visa program, also known as the Diversity Visa or Visa Lottery, you need to know the following:
- The registration period begins on October 6, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and ends on November 9, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
- 55,000 visas will be allocated for 2024.
- Enrollment in the Diversity Visa (DV) program is free; there is no cost to register.
- For This year, people from the following countries will not be able to participate (due to a high number of immigrants from these countries):
- You cannot apply if you are from one of the following countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom except Northern Ireland and dependent territories, Venezuela and Vietnam
- A computer system randomly selects winners of the Diversity Lottery program, and visas are distributed evenly across six geographic regions by the United States Department of State.
DV Lottery 2024 Requirements:
Before sending your application to participate, make sure you meet the following conditions:
- You must be a citizen of one of the countries with low immigration rates to the United States; if you are not, you can still participate if your spouse is from a country with low immigration rates. Or, you can ask the country of birth of your parents if they were born in one of the countries with low immigration rates.
- You must meet the education and work experience criteria, which means having at least a high school diploma or two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training.

Tips for applying for the DV Lottery 2024
DV lottery 2024 registration period is October 6, 2022, until November 9, 2022.
- Do not submit more than one application; this will exclude you from the lottery.
- Gather all your information before you start filling out the form; this will make the process easier.
- Submit your application in advance. Do not wait until the last day to submit your application: high demand can cause delays on the website.
- Do not send late registration or paper registration; it will not be received.
- Be sure to complete all form entries. The United States Department of State will not accept incomplete forms.
- Consult the website of the Embassy or one of the United States consulates in your country to find out if your country has more information on the lottery.
- After submitting your registration, be sure to keep a copy of your confirmation page and number. This information is necessary for you to check the status of your request.
- The United States Department of State will never send you an email telling you if you are selected for the DV program. Applicants can only find out by checking DV participant status at https://dvprogram.state.gov
DV Lottery 2024 Eligible Countries
Natives of the following countries are excluded from entering the DV-2024 Diversity Visa Lottery program this year:
- Bangladesh
- Brazil
- Canada
- China (Including Hong Kong SAR)
- Colombia
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- Haiti
- Honduras
- India
- Jamaica
- Mexico
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- South Korea
- United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland)
- Venezuela
- Vietnam
Note that the United Kingdom includes the following dependent areas: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn, St. Helena, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Northern Ireland does qualify.
Persons born in the Gaza Strip are chargeable to Egypt for the USA Diversity Visa Lottery this year.
Persons born in Macau SAR and Taiwan are also eligible to enter the DV-2024 Lottery.
Natives from all other countries may register for this years DV-Lottery, the USA DV-2024 Diversity Visa Lottery.
DV Lottery Fraud Warning
Be aware of fraudulent emails and letters from scammers posing as the United States Department of State to obtain money from immigration applicants. The US government will never ask you for prepayment by check, money order, or wire transfer.
This is a scam, do not pay money for an application or to check your entry status.
Try not to use a ‘visa consultant’, ‘visa agent’ or any ‘intervenor’ that offers assistance; if you do, you must be present while the person completes the application. The scammers will charge you for entry and then charge you to give you your confirmation number.
